Pre- and Post-Sedation Guidelines
- Do not eat for four hours before your appointment.
- Do not drink for two hours before your appointment.
- You must have a responsible, able-bodied adult guardian with you at all times on the day of treatment. They must remain with you for the rest of the day.
- Your guardian must be over 18 years of age and stay with you until you are fully alert.
- Children under the age of 14 must not attend the appointment or wait with you or your guardian.
- Your guardian should ideally be able to drive you home. If you are travelling by taxi, you must inform the taxi company that you have undergone sedation so that their insurance covers your condition.
- Do not drive, operate machinery, or undertake any strenuous or potentially hazardous activities for the remainder of the day.
- Avoid eating a heavy meal immediately after treatment. If you feel hungry, start with something light, such as fluids or toast.
- If you feel nauseous, lie down for a short while or sip a glass of cola.
- Do not drink alcohol or take any additional medication for the rest of the day unless advised by your dentist or anaesthetist.
- Take any prescribed medication exactly as directed by your dentist.
- If you experience any unusual symptoms or concerns, contact your dentist promptly.
- Should you require further information or clarification, please do not hesitate to ask your dentist or anaesthetist.
- If you are breastfeeding, please ensure you have expressed sufficient milk to cover the 24 hours following your treatment.
